About Author

Dr. Soma Ghosh, a vocalist from the Banaras Gharana, was proclaimed by Ustad Bismillah Khan as his 'manasputri' after hearing her sing. Later, the Bharat Ratna also conferred the title of 'Kashi Kokila' upon her. She is the first woman to perform at the Parliament of India, and has had the good fortune to perform several jugalbandis with the shehnai legend. Renowned for her strong grasp of rendering a wide variety of genres, she was bestowed with the Big Star IMA 'Best Ghazal Singer' Award in 2011. She has been honoured with the Padma Shri in 2016, in recognition of her musical talent and her relentless contribution to the field of classical music for the past 18 years through her NGO, Madhu Murchhana, which strives for the preservation and promotion of Indian classical music and for preservation of endangered musical instruments of India.
